Formica fusca is a species of ant in the genus Formica, widespread across Europe and parts of Asia. It is a medium-sized ant, usually dark brown to black in color, and commonly nests in soil, under stones, or in decaying wood. Known for its adaptability, F. fusca often inhabits open woodlands, meadows, and grasslands. The species is primarily omnivorous, feeding on insects, honeydew from aphids, and plant material. While not aggressive compared to some other ants, it plays an important ecological role in soil aeration, nutrient cycling, and controlling insect populations.
