Argiope sp. is a genus of orb-weaving spiders known for their large, strikingly patterned abdomens and distinctive webs. Commonly called garden or writing spiders, they are widespread in warm and tropical regions around the world. Their webs often feature a zigzag silk decoration, called a stabilimentum, which may help attract prey or provide camouflage. Though their size and vivid coloration can appear intimidating, Argiope spiders are harmless to humans and play a beneficial role by controlling insect populations.
